Anticipation

Devotional, Wednesday Woman / Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

But when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His Son.
Galatians 4:4

Lord Jesus,
The cards have been sent, the gifts wrapped, the food bought and now we wait. Little children can hardly stand the anticipation. They jump up and down with eyes big as saucers as they long for the moment when they will open presents. There is delight in the poised, hopeful, anticipation of the fulfillment of something longed for. I remember waiting for my children to be born. At the end of those months, I had everything ready and then waited and waited. I wondered every day if ‘this would be the day.’ But there is always a fullness of time. Just like the night over 2000 years ago on the Bethlehem hills. You came. You really did! This is not make-believe or some good tale handed down through the ages. You, the exact image of the Father, came to this planet wrapped in human flesh. You hid your glory and splendor to be swaddled in rags and put in a feed trough only to be swaddled in rags and laid in a tomb just a short few years later. Why did you do it? Could there have been another way? Thank you dear Lamb of God! Oh dear Lord please don’t let me trample the holiness of this season amid the revelry. The more I unwrap the truth of the manger the more awestruck I am at the wonder of the cross. There could not be one without the other. And now we wait for another long expected fulfillment – when you come for us and take us to heaven. I pray that we wait in hopeful anticipation, preparing for your arrival, telling everyone about the hope that we carry in our hearts. In the fullness of His time all things come. Amen.

Waiting and watching,
Penny
