Construction

Devotional, Wednesday Woman / Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you
will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:6

Dear Father,
Yesterday You gave me another illustration of Your ways. Road construction has dominated this metroplex and seems like every day there is a new detour to take. It causes me to pay attention when I head out to work bleary-eyed in the early mornings. I watch the orange and white barrels guide a string of headlights into new directions. “Which way are we going to turn today?” But ever so slowly I can see the super highway take shape. I like to envision what the mounds of dirt are going to look like when the concrete is poured on top of them. Those thoughts either come from a very simple mind or a curious one but either way it works for me. And bridges – I don’t know why but bridges fascinate me the most. The engineering that goes into those massive columns of steel and concrete must be meticulously accurate or disaster is sure to happen. And so it is with the life of a disciple. We are all under construction. The Master Builder already sees the end result when sometimes all we see is a pile of dirt. “Move this mound here, pile those rocks there, scrape this way,  bulldoze that way” and on and on it goes. The construction is laborious, hot, noisy work but a “super life” is in the making and the Master will not compromise for ease. Too much at stake. Can others see the road of my life with Jesus taking shape? I hope so. Please help me keep a fresh vision
of Your work. And Lord, give me lots of bridges on my road. Bridges that bring the lost and wounded to the City of Hope – Jesus. Amen

Love,
Penny
