“But the king will rejoice in God;
all who swear by God’s name will praise him,
while the mouths of liars will be silenced.”
Psalm 63:11
Dear Father,
Thank You for giving us this great country to call home. I love this land. Having lived much of my life up and down the East Coast, I have gained a great appreciation for the rich early American history that area affords. I could get lost in time walking down the cobblestone streets of Williamsburg, meandering through gardens in Charleston, and sitting on the docks in old Boston Harbor. Our freedom was hard fought and nothing about it was easy. If prayers could be seen as rising smoke, then I am sure the colonial woods were on fire as this new country was being birthed. Men praying as they fought the foe, women praying as they buried their fathers, husbands, brothers and sons, children learning to pray alongside. And a new government that was not ashamed to be known as Yours prayed, yes prayed, and sought Your guidance. Time has marched on and today we face a new foe, one that is relentless and godless. The musket has been replaced with laser guided smart bombs, horses have been replaced with screaming jets and heavily armored tanks, ships cruise under nuclear power rather than canvas sails, and the women still bury their fathers, husbands, brothers, sons (and now daughters). Our prayers are often doused by a government that was founded on prayer. “Do not offend other’s beliefs, do not use the name of Jesus in public prayers, do not display a nativity scene or cross on public property, forget having a devotion time in kindergarten” and so on. I kind of imagine our forefathers would weep rivers of tears to know that so much of what they fought for has been extinguished by buckets of tolerance. But we don’t have to despair, Your Word holds true. There will come a day when every false religion, every lying tongue, everything that sets itself up against You will be silenced. So we rejoice and continue to rejoice that You are on the Throne, the enemy is already defeated, and for this time and place that You have given us to live – America, we will use the freedoms we have to proclaim Jesus is Lord. Thank You again dear Father, for allowing me to live in this country for ‘such a time as this’. I love you dearly.
