“He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners.”
Isaiah 61:1b
Dear Father,
Thank You for sending Your Son to free and mend a messed up world. Having recently witnessed closer than a bird’s eye view, the psychiatric and penal systems, I would say there are a whole lot of brokenhearted, captive and darkened souls that need You. But You don’t have to go to a mental facility or jail to find these souls, nope, they are found sitting in pews and standing in choir lofts in our local churches. You have opened my blind eyes to so much. I always ask to see things through Your eyes and then when You start to peel back the scales, I find myself begging for You to close my eyes to what I see. I have seen the brokenhearted, captive, prisoners up close and personal. I have been one myself in one way or another until You broke my chains and set my shackled feet free. And this is what I know: it takes the Son of God to deal with the brokenness and darkness of the human heart. There is not a psychiatrist or counselor alive that could begin to touch the core of our hearts. A judge might release a prisoner from his cell but only You can release him from darkness. Only You can free a soul, cleanse his heart and open his eyes. How You choose to do Your work is Your choice and not ours. We can only be available for Your service. Who are we that we possibly think that we can ‘fix’ another human heart? We can talk ‘til we are blue in the face, beg with tears, and make promises that are undeliverable and the heart will not be changed apart from the work of Your Holy Spirit. Without You transforming our hearts, masks just get traded for another mask and old addictions parade around in disguise. We think we fixed ‘em but we haven’t. But how I praise You that miracles still happen and lives are being changed because You are actively at work drawing, wooing, and chasing the souls of those whom You dearly love. You are beyond words Almighty Father. Great are Your ways and marvelous the works You accomplish!
Love,
Penny
