Spring

Devotional, Wednesday Woman / Sunday, April 4th, 2010

“Do you know how the clouds hang poised,
those wonders of Him who is perfect in knowledge?”
Job 37:16

Wonderful Maker,

I love spring! There is something so hopeful about this time of year. The freshness of just-opened buds and blooms bring energy and expectation to weary souls. Life pulsates from all directions. Your creativity is beyond the scope of any reasoning. I can read science books on how clouds form and the reflections and refractions that give color to the skies, I can read about chlorophyll giving plant life their hues, and I can read medical journals on the growth and development of tiny embryos but none of these answer the question of „why?? How does not tell me why. Why would You go to so much trouble to make a spectacular, glorious, spring day? Why would You position daybreak clouds so that pinks, oranges, blues, and purples paint the horizon with breathtaking color? Why do You adorn delicate, intricate blossoms on gnarly trees that will soon drop to the ground? Why do You direct those honking geese back to their northern homes if only they are to return next winter? Why do You fashion tiny babies in the secret place and make us wait and wait? Why do You do the things You do? I cannot know the mind of God but I can know what flows from the heart of God and it is good – entirely good. Your goodness brings freshness to me. How fitting that the Resurrection came in the springtime of the year. New life – amen! Glorious Lord, You give me so many daily delights to remind me of Your love. From wispy clouds, fragile petals, feathered treetop quartets, to brand new heartbeats wrapped in pink and blue; all reminders that You O Lord are marvelous, magnificent and rightly to be adored. You have given us so much to enjoy. Help us to slow down and enjoy the works of Your hands. Remind me to pause often throughout the day and praise You for the multitude of good things that You have showered on me. And when ominous spring storms roll through my heart, I pray that I remember that I am sheltered in Your arms, the very arms that stretched out over the Sea of Galilee and said “Peace be still” and it was so. I bless Your Name.

Love,
Penny
