Vision

Devotional, Wednesday Woman / Sunday, February 28th, 2010

“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened…”
Ephesians 1:18

Dear Jesus,
Be thou my vision. I heard that song this morning and it has been rolling around in my head all day. When I was very young my eyes crossed and I remember having to wear a patch over the strong eye to try and strengthen my weak eye. I hated wearing that patch. It was hard for me to see and I did not like being teased by other children. Every chance I got I removed it so I am not sure if it did much to help my vision. Now these many years later I am begging you to make me ‘cross’-eyed. I want to see through your eyes. Help me not turn to the left or right but keep my sight fixed on you. These are surely complicated days and it is so easy to allow our spiritual eyes to wander to the point that they become lazy and our vision distorted. It takes disciplines of the soul for your kind of vision and that is what I am asking for. Be thou my vision when the night hours are long and a loved one is suffering from physical ailment. Be thou my vision when I wait to hear from a maverick child lost in the world. Be thou my vision when age settles in my bones and they ache from the wintry winds. Be thou my vision when heat bears down on my back and the cares of this life scorch my dreams. Be thou my vision when my kindred in faith fall into snares and schemes from the hater of our souls. Be thou my vision when jobs collapse, health fails, friends move, kids disappoint, churches split and hearts grow cold. Lord Jesus I only want eyes for you. Your eyes move me to seek out the lost and offer them your good news, your eyes help me to love the down and out who desperately need hope, your eyes cause me to rejoice and lift up my head for redemption draweth nigh, your eyes open up heaven to me and I desire you with all my heart and soul. Oh please dear Christ, be Thou my vision.

Love,
Penny
