This article gives me courage and enthusiasm. I am in a modern day Sardis church. It’s so sad that most of the churches around me are either Sardis or Laodicea. I will continue strengthen that which remains by encouraging, studying, fellowshipping with the “few”. Thank you so much for this article.

Excision of the cancer of self is painful, and our natural tendency is to avoid it. However, if we resist the remedy, it is only a matter of time until the pain of our condition will threaten to overwhelm us with even greater pain which can spread to even more areas of our life. Allowing the Great Physician to have his way in our lives is not easy, but it is ultimately easier than dealing with the consequences of refusing his help.

The cost of the pursuit of Truth, and obedience to it is almost always high. Friends and family who don’t understand (and don’t want to make any effort to understand) will, for all meaningful purposes, abandon you. Those who once held you in esteem will view you with suspicion, or worse. Fear of human rejection can be immobilizing spiritually if we allow it to take root. God alone is able to make us stand when we focus on his power rather than our own strength.

In reply to Veronica Paul. Love this. Have you ever read Valley of Vision by Arthur Bennett? I discovered it not long A Diary of Private Prayer and it too contains many gems of prayers that withstand time in freshness.

This little book was given to me by my fiance in 1967, a year before we were married. I have since then read the prayers every morning and night. The amazing thing is that even though I’ve read the same prayers over 31 days for more than 50 years, they have never failed to touch upon a certain chord in my life each day such that I feel that there is an appropriate message just for that particular day.

Thank you for this beautiful devotion and reminder. I was searching for this song this morning. God placed the words in my head and I couldn’t remember anything but the course. But instead of the song being sung God led me to this devotion. How awesome our God is. Always giving us what we need when we need it the most.
