“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” – John 1:14

“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he

might bring us to God,”  – 1 Peter 3:18

Out of the darkness God called forth light

Our Savior was born in the middle of the night

God does his greatest work

In places we cannot see

a mother’s womb,

a buried seed

Even in the darkest chambers of the human heart

The gift of life in darkness he imparts.

We know not when he comes or when he leaves

Like the wind, we only see & hear the rustling leaves

Move beneath his feet as he walks among us

As the ordinary becomes displaced

By the presence of his grace

What was once motionless, now breathes

What was once lifeless, now sings.

He still continues to pass by largely unseen

Slowly gathering his following

Tapping shoulders and whispering to hearts

Make haste to follow him before he departs!

If you are among those who hear his call

Quickly turn around and leave it all!

Follow his voice where ever he goes

He is the treasure. He is the Rose.

Despite the darkness still some shout

As they hear him walking about

They raise their voice and make a crying plea…

“My Lord and Savior have mercy on me!”

Many still laugh at their pitiful cries

For they still see no one of any worth walking by

But despite their blindness the blind men see

What the seeing eye could not believe

The Son of God walking around

Cloaked with humility and a common face

No one could recognize His High Grace.

In obedience he had stepped down

Setting aside his crown

and walking away from his throne

He now walked among those he called his own

Willingly he bore their taunts  of disgrace

So that he might save the human race

from the wrath of God that is weighing down

silent and heavy against all injustice to be found

soon to remove all rebellion from the earth

and all sin that has infected us from our birth.

Yet in his grace, the Father looks down

to see if any righteous ones can be found

Any who love and walk in his ways

Any who seek him and send up His praise

Yet all had forgotten Him

And went their own way

without a thought of Him to seek His way.

No, not one perfect one could be found

And the sentence hung heavy, slowly coming down

Once more God looked and saw His one and only Son

The one and only righteous one.

The Father  knew what had to be done

And sent his One and Only Son

To be born of a virgin at birth

to be righteousness here on earth

to live the life that we men could not live

and to lay down his own  life for men

so that God could forgive

through the atoning sacrifice of his Son.

And turn his wrath away

from all those who would pray

Calling out to his Son

After His work was done:

“My Lord and Savior have mercy on me!

Innocent and pure

Holy and Dear

Obedient and Sure

He walked among us

He loved on us.

He taught us about the One True God

So that we might know Him

as He knew Him.

He revealed him to us.

Showed us his face

Through his love and grace.

His mercy and compassion

rained down upon us

flooded us,

healing those among us

and steadied us

amongst the ocean waves.

He taught us grace.

Yet he was betrayed

For no good dwelt within us.

Rejected and beaten, he made not a sound

But willingly he laid his life down

To the cross he suffered their jeers

And plead for their forgiveness through his own tears

Such a holy love was never before known

before it was poured out from its heavenly throne

On the cross was the Great I Am

Yet he died as a lamb

Silent and meek

Innocent and weak

With his eyes on heaven and with his heart on earth

to his spirit he gave birth

The sky grew black as the sun hid its light

Day became as dark as night.

Fear struck the men who stood by his side

Many now believed who had once denied.

3 Days 3 Nights he spent in the grave

Then death and sin  became his slave

Out of the darkness God called forth light

Our Savior was born in the middle of the night

The great stone was rolled away,

Our Lord and Savior was here to stay!

Great rage and great anger you’d think he’d show

Against all those men who had treated him so.

But instead on their behalf he continued to plead

And offered free grace and forgiveness for all who believed

In quiet meekness many would come

because of all the sins they had done

Humbly they fell and confessed at His feet

Raising their voice and making the plea…

“My Lord and Savior have mercy on me!

Tell me my friend, Why do you wait?

He is the door, He is the gate.

With a holy love his spirit still invites:

Come to me and find eternal life.

Peace on Heaven and on Earth.

Peace between God and Man

through a new birth.

Right now he holds out his hand

Willing to forgive and give life anew

And he stands right now looking to you.

Won’t you this instant come,

and follow such a One

as He has shown himself to be

our one and only

Lord, Savior, Redeemer and King!

Oh, say it with me:

“My Lord and Savior have mercy on me!
