Ants

“…and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:13

Dear Father,
Yesterday I battled ants in my backyard. They amaze me with their tenacity. I use my garden hose to annihilate their mounds and the next day they are back. Some days I give them a break and leave them alone. They are undaunted. They just continue to build, build, build. I wonder how big the mounds would become if I never bothered them? However, they threaten the peace of my territory so I wash them away with my ever-ready extinguisher. I could use ant poison but that seems like cheating. Something about using the hose with its force of water makes me think I am in the power seat. Some psych doctor might have fun with me on that one – ha-ha. But Father, today the ants are not my concern. I have a foe that is giant size and makes me feel like the ant in comparison. A problem that I can’t outrun, can’t ignore, and cannot extinguish with a garden hose or fire hose. So where do I go? To the Rock that is higher than I. Upon that Rock I plant my feet firmly and stand. Please Lord Jesus, give me spiritual tenacity to stand against my giant. Help me to not listen to the roar of accusations, criticism and taunts from my soul’s enemy. Remind me that I am more than a conqueror because of Christ. My God is in control. The same God who was with Moses, Joshua, and David is with me, that’s right – little ol’ me. So why should I fret or be discouraged? You are an ever-present help in time of trouble. Thank You for Your presence and Your peace. Tomorrow I will deal with the ants. Amen.

Love,
Penny
