The Right Thing

Devotional, Wednesday Woman / Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

“And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.”

2 Thessalonians 3:13

Dear Father,

Help me do the right thing. Now that sounds so easy to my ears and I have muttered it so many times without giving it a whole lot of thought. But my prayer today and I hope for the rest of my days is to really live each day doing the right thing. Your way – that is the right thing. As legs are put on those words and I walk them out in my everyday life I know that it will not be always easy to do. Right can mean the hard thing, the long thing, the uncomfortable thing and maybe even the embarrassing thing to this jar of clay. But if it is the right way then I know you will bring goodness from it as you have reminded me with your words: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” In every choice of my day help me choose what is right. From the things I eat, the clothes I wear, the way I drive, to the words I say, the thoughts I think, the decisions I make, and every space in between, help me O God to choose your way. The old me – the girl born of flesh – has to bow out and allow the risen Lord Jesus to reign over me in spirit. When I am tempted to cheat, to lie, to tromp over others for my own way, to sidestep holiness for ease, to compromise even just a tad, quicken me to do the right thing. Precious Lord, I also have some mighty big decisions ahead and I ask for your wisdom in those issues. Guide me through the narrows and help me trust that your way is best no matter how difficult it may seem. For your glory, may it be so. Amen.

Love,

Penny
