Cracked Foundations

Devotional, Wednesday Woman / Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

“He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep
and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came,
the torrent struck that house but could not shake it,
because it was well built.” Luke 6:48

Dear Father,
I have a crack in my foundation. How long has it been there? I don’t know, but it threatens the structure of my home and causes me concern. To the casual observer nothing appears amiss but to one with a watchful eye the problem is easily identifiable and action must be taken. I was told that the crack was due to the drought in our area. Lack of water has caused the ground to shift and that has made an impact on my foundation. Dear Father, I believe there are a lot of homes sitting on cracked foundations in a spiritual sense. Lack of Living Water causes our grounds to become dry, then shift and crack. We go without Bible study, forget to pray, don’t want to bother with worship and before long the little crack gets wider and wider and our lives become unstable and unsafe. Negligence is a key factor in so many of these cracks. Spiritual laziness will cause a drought in the heart quicker than the Texas sun can dry up a creek bed. Help us Lord to be attentive to our foundation care. I pray we water frequently, check for cracks, and maintain strong spiritual houses that reflect your glory and stand as testimonies of your mighty presence. Thank You once again for taking the ordinary and showing me something extraordinary. That is Your way and I praise You afresh. Amen.

Love,
Penny
